Me, probably around 1975. I got out of the Navy in July of 1974 and it would have taken until well into 1975, perhaps longer, for my hair to grown out that long.

Our vacation when we went to Susanville, CA to check out the gunsmithing program at the Lassen Community College.

These were taken somewhere along the Feather River.

Mike, with his uncle Tony's kids, in 1974. Tony was still in the Air Force, stationed at Beale AFB and living in Marysville CA. We stopped to visit them on our way home from Susanville.

Wintergarden's Tracker, our Black & Tan Coonhound. Smartest dog I've ever owned. One day I noticed that he had a sore on the side of his nose. I was cleaning it out with hydrogen peroxied and a Q-tip when he suddenly growled and went for my face (which was not that far away). He stopped short and then buried the top of his head in my chest. It turned out that he had an abcessed tooth.

He loved to chase a tennis ball and would bring it back, but you had to pull it out of his mouth. Lots of slime involved.

Vehicles
1966 Harley Davidson "Sprint" - 250cc single cylinder. I rode this from IB to Solar up on Ruffin Rd for more than a year. I would drive up I-5 to what is now I-15, then up to Kearney Mesa.

One afternoon on my way to work (swing shift), as I was making the turn onto 15, I heard a round wiz past my head.
Nothing else sounds like a bullet.

Parts for a motorcycle I never got to finish. This is a VL frame, tanks, and springer front end, with a UL engine and some kind of transmission sitting in it.

The VL engind didn't have a recirculating oil pump. Oil drained into the engine from a tank that was part of the left gas tank. A recirculating pump came out on the UL.

My plan was to fit an oil tank to this contraption and build what I intended to call a UVL (you-vell) head.

This project was sold for parts when I bought the 48 FL.

In the background, Brian is working on the motorcycle trailer we built.

My 1948 Harley Davidson FL as it was purchased with an aftermarket rigid frame and 8" extended front forks.
The same bike (well, the engine and transmission)
1956 Swingarm Frame (first year of the swing arm frame and the lowest seat position of any swingarm frame)

1974 FX disk brake swingarm and disk brake forks.

500x21 front tire, 510x18 rear

1957 gas tanks, NOS white grips and floor boards, mousetrap, rachet lid, left grip spark retard, Gilmer belt primary drive.

An original Indian speedometer with a US GI Harley 45 ignition switch, Neither Harley or Indian made their own speedometers. They were probably made by Stewart Warner and therefore interchangable.

The button on the ignition switch locked the switch in the off position. Why? Designed by some engineer who never rode.

This mini-bike was found in the trash by a friend, who gave it to me.

Pete Harris, on his Harley Davidson UL flathead.
1964 Corvair Monza, affectionately called the Monza-lac (cf. Cadillac). Chuck messed up his knee on a motocross bike and I went looking for a car with an automatic transmission, as we had none in the family. A neighbor of one of the guys I worked with at Solar sold this to me for $150. Ran great.

After Chuck healed I drove it for a while. It was a great car and lots of fun to drive but had a tendency to swap ends if you hit the brakes hard and turned the wheel a bit.

I bought this car from Brian after I sold my 1973 Travelall, and later sold it to Liz Alvarez, while I was dating her.

Parked along side the house I was renting at 2nd and Elm.

1973 International Travelall. Solar was owned by IH when I worked there and, as an employee, I was entitled to buy their vehicles at dealer cost (25% off list price). I ordered this in the summer of 1972.

I took that thing to more places in the hills than all the other cars I ever owned.

Margaret's 1978 Mazda GLC (Great Little Car).
My Schwinn Le Tour. I rode that thing a lot.

Memorable Moments
Brian, outside Weed CA, on our trip to R Ranch in July of 1975.

We drove his 1966 Chevy Carryall. As we were driving up north of the Bay Area, probably somewhere around Red Bluff, he was in the passenger seat, drinking a Coors. The Who's Tommy blasting on the 8 track player.

A CHP passed us, headed south. In the outside mirror I saw CHP car make a U turn across the median and head our direction. I told Brian, who promptly threw the can of beer out the window.

The CHP went right past us.

Margaret's Uncle Joe had a share in the R Ranch up by the Oregon border. He kept a 30' travel trailer there and Margaret, Mike, and I spent a week or so there in the summer of 1974. Mike, in front of my father's Dodge pickup and camper where we stayed on our vacation.
